Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
An important political figure said the attack rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
