A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His retrieving play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
